2017 Landour Mela #4

Stepping into the enchanting realm of the Landour Mela, where tradition dances hand in hand with local creativity, this vibrant carnival has now meticulously woven itself into the vibrant tapestry of the Mussoorie Winterline Carnival for the third glorious year. Starting December 25th and culminating on the lively day of December 31st, this week-long Winterline festival is a kaleidoscope of culture, featuring star power, renowned folk performers, and cultural artists that draw the community together in joyful celebration.

This year, the Mela flourished with the invaluable support of Regional Tourist Officer Smt. Seema ji. Her unwavering commitment set the stage for an extraordinary convergence of artistic brilliance, vibrant energy, and local talent. The directorate of Culture, Government of Uttarakhand, orchestrated a stunning array of traditional dance groups and folk artists, each performance pulsating with the rhythm of the hills and evoking the spirit of Uttarakhand’s rich cultural heritage.

The grand inauguration of the Mela was graced by the esteemed Shri Manmohan Singh Mall, the former Chairman of the Nagar Palika Parishad Mussoorie, alongside the dedicated patronage of Mr. Jhaldiyal Suryamani from the Winterline Samiti, whose presence added a touch of honour to the festivities.

This year’s Mela, adorned with a handpicked selection of 23 stalls, transformed into a verdant paradise dedicated to sustainability and healthy living. Local nurseries proudly showcased lush greenery, while dedicated farmers and talented chefs offered a delightful assortment of organic produce, artisanal foods, and eco-friendly crafts. Visitors marvelled at the unique collection of products, each crafted with care, promoting healthy eating, environmentally conscious fashion, and methods to cultivate natural gardens, emphasising a lifestyle that cherishes the beauty of nature.

Families strolled through the vibrant stalls, children’s laughter mingling with the sounds of traditional music echoing in the background. The Mela welcomed approximately 800 visitors over the span of just two days, each person captivated by the charm and allure of Landour’s rich offerings. It was an immersive experience of epic proportions, where guests could engage with artisans, taste homegrown delicacies, and participate in various cultural activities underscoring the overall spirit of camaraderie
